sticky rice restaurant

Green and healthy, Southeast Asian-styled hotspot

Sticky Rice Restaurant was an interior design at a popular mall in Pudong, Shanghai.  It was the second project we did for ShenGang F&B Management Group after the earlier Cafe Chez L’Ami. For this eatery, our client was drawn to nature, greenery, and the outdoors, so our design was guided by this inspiration. Glass block tiles were used on the storefront to let in as much natural light as possible while limiting transparency, and full-width folded sliding doors were used to eliminate the need for solid exterior walls — a gesture to invite the outdoors in. Another nod to nature was the main communal dining table, which ran the length of the dining room and was custom designed with built-in wheatgrass planters. An effort was also made to embrace the spirit of brick and concrete that we had inherited from the architecture by exposing its stunning high ceiling.

Project area: 105sqm (including outdoor seating area). 2015.
